Pastor’s Note, September 19-20

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

The second reading in today’s Sacred Scripture has a pertinent and special meaning for me and perhaps for yourselves.  In his letter to the Philippians St. Paul states, “If I go on living in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me.”  Though Paul is longing to be with the Lord, he finds joy and fulfillment in continuing service to the Lord and His people.  I feel the same way.

As you know, or maybe not, that all bishops, priests and deacons must at the age of 75 submit their retirements to either the Holy father for bishops and to their bishop for priests. Since I have now turned 75, rather than submit my retirement to our bishop, I have asked him for an extension of my ministry here in greater Honesdale.  His Excellency has granted my request for another year and I am truly grateful.   I humbly ask you, my dear parishioners, to keep me in your prayers that God grant me the strength and fervor to serve you selflessly and with joy.

With Blessings,

Father Langan
