Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today is the last Sunday of Advent and the great feast of Our Lord: Nativity will be upon us soon. We recall the events that took place immediately before the Lord’s birth, namely, the miraculous conception of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit and Mary’s visitation. Whereas on the feast of Mary’s Immaculate Conception we pondered how our loving Father prepared Mary, today we contemplate her response to God’s invitation to be the Mother of the Redeemer. Though astounded and a bit confused by the Divine request, Mary responds with a resounding “yes”; let it be done unto me as you say.” This is her “fiat,” her complete surrender to God’s will. Our mother teaches us so simply and with utter confidence, though not always understanding the great mystery, to surrender.
How very reluctant we are to surrender, in truth, even to God! Perhaps in these final days of Advent we would do well to discern and surrender to Our Heavenly Father’s plan for us. It could well be the real gift from God that we have been searching for.
On behalf of Father Reichlen, Father Finn and in my own name, we extend to you and your loved ones, near and far, the joyous blessings of this Season. May Christ be newly born in your hearts and His Peace reign in your families.
A Very Blessed Christmas,
